Missing Oz girl survived on chewing gum
Updated 29 November 2002, 12.40
Louise Saunders found her way out by following a stream
A British teenager who went missing for three days on an Australian mountain has been found safe and well.

Louise Saunders said she survived on a diet of sugar-free gum and water from a stream.

And all she's got is sore feet and a few scratches after her ordeal!

Followed a stream

Louise's mum and sister were delighted
Louise, 19, got lost when she went to explore the rainforest on Mount Tyson in Queensland, Australia.

"It was an experience and an adventure but I would never want to go through it again," Louise said. "I'm always going to thank chewing gum for my survival."

Police were out searching for Louise with helicopters and a team of 70 people, but she eventually found her own way back to safety by following a stream.

'Almost impossible'

Louise with her boyfriend Steven Wong
The search crew, which included Louise's boyfriend Steven Wong, found a carving she had made in a tree, which said 'Louise S loves Steven W for eva'.

Police said her trek was "almost impossible" but that she was "very smart" to have found her way out of the forest.

Louise's family, from Kidderminster, are delighted.
