Iraq agrees to let UN inspect weapons
Updated 13 November 2002, 18.01
Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein
Iraq has agreed to allow the United Nations to inspect its weapons.

The decision was expected, because if Iraq refused, America had threatened to attack.

But although this is good news, there are more deadlines to be met over the next three months before the UN is completely happy.

Secret weapons

The United Nations' Security Council meets to discuss Iraq
The UN says Iraq has secret weapons of mass destruction, which could kill lots of people if used against the rest of the world.

But Iraq says it hasn't, so it's not worried about letting inspectors in.

Inspecting inside Saddam's house

The UN's plan took two months to agree, and is supported by all 15 members of the UN's Security Council - who make the most important decisions.

UN inspectors say they're heading back to Iraq on Monday to begin looking at Iraq's weapons.

They must be allowed everywhere - even inside leader Saddam Hessein's presidential quarters.
