Rover the Robot is being sent into the heart of the pyramid by scientists, to find out what's hidden inside.

A part of the Great Pyramid of Cheops has been blocked for 4,000 years.

Mystery

An engineer tests Rover the Robot on the wall of the pyramid
Scientists aren't sure what's in there, but they reckon it could contain valuable papers, tools or even a statue of Pharaoh Khufu, who built the pyramid.

The pyramid of Cheops is the largest of a group of three pyramids in Giza, near Cairo.

Another group of scientists tried to send a robot into the mystery area nine years ago, but it just hit a lump of rock and stopped. So Rover will have a drill to get through the blockage.

Coffin

'Egyptologist' Zahi Hawass is in charge of the robot mission
Rover the robot is just 12 inches tall and he's the same type of machine which helped find victims in the World Trade Centre rubble on 11 September.

The same scientists are also opening an ancient coffin, called a sarcophagus, in a village near the pyramid. They think it's the coffin of an Egyptian called Ny Swt Wsrt, who helped build the pyramid all those years ago.

Both the openings will be shown live on TV on the National Geographic Channel on Monday 16 September.
