  US promises to keep up war on terror

President Bush has said in a speech to mark the first anniversary of the terror attacks that America will not give up on the war on terror.

In a live televised address, he said America had "entered a great struggle that tests our strength, and even more our resolve.

"What our enemies have begun, we will finish," he said.

The speech followed a day of ceremonies and remembrance for the 3,025 people killed or missing as a result of last year's attacks, whose names were read out during the service in New York.

And an eternal flame was lit at sunset at a memorial service at the Sphere, in Battery Park, a sculpture which once stood in the plaza of the World Trade Centre.
