Steve Fossett flight facts
- Steve is the first man to fly solo around the world in a balloon
- This was his sixth attempt to conquer the last great balloon challenge
The journey took just 13 days
The aim was to cover 29,000 miles
The balloon travelled up to 200 kilometres per hour
The capsule is just 2.5 metres square
Steve slept in a full length bunk in a sleeping bag
He ate military-style MREs (meals ready to eat) warmed by chemical heat packs
His toilet was a bucket!
Fossett carried an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon to help find him in case of an emergency landing
He's a good swimmer - he once swam across the Channel!
