Mobile phone ban for Bangladeshi kids
Updated 03 June 2002, 14.46
Mobile phones
Children in Bangladesh could be banned from using mobile phones until they are 16.

Map of Bangladesh

The new laws are being proposed by the Bangladeshi government to protect young people from possible radiation from mobiles which might cause brain damage.

Some research shows radiation can affect brain tissue and its thought processes.

And experts say children and young people are more at risk because their skulls are thinner.

Proof?

But companies who make and sell mobiles in Bangladesh aren't happy about the proposals.

They say there is no scientific proof that radiation from mobiles damages your brain.
