  Count Dracula's search for heir
Updated 16 April 2002, 17.18
Count Dracula and son?
Count Dracula, the most famous vampire of all, is looking for some fresh blood.

He's desperate to find a young person who will carry on his name, cape and castle.

But this isn't the Dracula from films and books - this is the real-life Count Dracula who's alive and well and living in Germany.

Name and address

His full name is Ottomar Rodolphe Vlad Dracula Prinz Kretzulesco, and he lives in Castle Dracula in the village of Schenkendorf near Berlin.

Fact File
Juicy Dracula facts
Dracula means "son of the devil" in Romanian
The Dracula family are descendents of 15th century warrior Vlad the Impaler
Bram Stoker wrote the stories in the 19th Century
His vicious family, who lived 500 years ago, inspired the original Dracula stories.

But the current Count is now 61 and has no children, so he wants to adopt a child.

And he doesn't want just anybody - he wants aristocracy, even from Britain!

He says: "Those who might be interested should write to me, including a photograph. They must be nobles and should be younger than me, obviously. It would be a great advantage if they could have children too."

Bloodsucker

The current Count Dracula was himself adopted into the family in the 1980s.

But he is a bloodsucker of some sort. He spends most of his time recruiting blood donors for the German Red Cross!
