  Sandstorms turns Beijing sky yellow
Updated 20 March 2002, 16.42
The sky by the Great Wall of China turned yellow

Beijing, the capital of China, has been hit by terrible sandstorms that have made the sky change colour from grey to yellow to orange.

Traffic was seriously delayed on Wednesday whilst people put on masks and ran for cover as thick dust made it difficult to see.

The sandstorms were caused by very strong winds.

People have been advised to stay indoors to protect their lungs from the dust.

Sandstorms are common in northern China at this time of year, but this is thought to be one of the worst.

Fears for Olympics

Experts are warning that these dusty storms could cause problems for the Olympics that are being held in Beijing in 2008.
