  Zimbabwe election count begins
Updated 12 March 2002, 11.39
Counting in the Zimbabwe presidential election
Votes are being counted in Zimbabwe's presidential election, after a High Court refused to let polling go on for another day.

The main challenger, Morgan Tsvangirai, had asked the court to let voting go on for an extra day because so many people hadn't had the chance to vote yet.

But the court said no, and police were forced to make thousands of people still queuing outside polling stations go home.

Will of the people

Lots of people are angry about the way the elections have been conducted, and current President Robert Mugabe has been accused of using violence to get people to vote for him.

A spokesman for his party, Zanu-PF, promised they would go with the "will of the people" if Morgan Tsvangirai gets more votes.

But Mr Tsvangirai's party have warned there could be trouble brewing because so many of his supporters have been turned away from polling stations, without being given the chance to vote.
