Grenade found at British school in Holland
Updated 31 January 2002, 14.01
Voorschoten in the Netherlands
A hand grenade at a British school in the Netherlands has been disposed of safely after it was found attached to a fence.

An army unit was called in to dispose of it, and 700 pupils were evacuated from the school while the operation took place.

Had to go back to lessons

However, once the device had been taken away the pupils - more than half of them British - had to go back to school for more lessons.

The package was found by teachers at the school, in the town of Voorschoten near the western city of Leiden.

The Dutch police and the army bomb squad were able to remove the device, and as yet police don't know where it came from.
