TV editor Ladi Akeredolu-Ale, who works near the weapons depot in Nigeria, has described what he saw:
"When the fire reached the munitions depot it set off a number of the explosives which were stored there.
There were huge booms, explosions, that was the way it started.
The blasts sent red fireballs into the sky.
The initial reaction was panic. In the immediate aftermath of the explosions you had a whole lot of people - literally thousands of people on the roads.
Many people had to be evacuated from their homes. Many had little more than the clothes they had on. A lot of people were running."
One young person emailed from India to tell us about a lucky escape:
"My dad's factory was situated 100 yards behind the ammunitions dump ... he called us today telling us this had happened.
The roof of his main building is totally gone and I really am disturbed by this unfortunate accident.
He almost got hit by one of the bullets or whatever was whizzing by in the air it landed 15-20 feet in front of him."
