The eruption from Mount Nyiragongo has devastated Goma, leaving thousands homeless. Lava has been flowing through the town and into Lake Kivu since Thursday.
The lava flow is still bubbling and exploding and has split Goma in two, but can be crossed at some points.
And even though there are still earth tremors threatening more eruptions, refugees are clambering over the lava to get back to their ruined homes to see what belongings they can rescue.
