Colin Powell, the American secretary of State, is in Afghanistan to try and help the country rebuild after the war against terror.

Mr Powell is in the Afghan capital of Kabul, and is thought to be helping the new government with money problems.

Releasing money taken from Taleban

When they started to fight against the Taleban America stopped them using bank accounts with more than 150m in them.

Now it seems they may be ready to let the new government have some of that money, with Powell saying that the accounts will be opened "in a matter of days".

But Powell is in Afghanistan before an important meeting in Japan next week, when the US will ask other countries to give money to Afghanistan.

The Afghan government need around 70m to start the rebuilding process, and may need as much as 10bn over the next 10 years.rs.
