Row over girl aged 9 on catwalk
Updated 11 October 2001, 15.52

A top fashion designer has been criticised for using models as young as nine and ten to model her clothes in a catwalk show in Paris.

The young models wore Stella Cadente's latest designs including revealing adult clothes with low cut necklines and short skirts.

One girl was even dressed in a wedding dress.

It's believed the designer's theme for the show was young girls dressing up in their mum's clothes and make-up.

Courting publicity

But many people in the fashion press have criticised the show, saying it is wrong to use girls so young on a catwalk.

The world of fashion is famous for causing controversy to get publicity.

Designers have been criticised before for using anorexic, ill looking girls in fashion shows.
