Girl, nine, killed in train crash
Updated 08 November 2004, 14.23
Louella Main and her mum were killed in the crash
A nine-year-old girl and her mum were both killed in the train crash on Saturday which claimed seven lives.

Louella Main and her mum Anjanette Rossi were among those killed when a train hit a car on a level crossing near Ufton Nervet in Berkshire.

Investigators are trying to work out what caused the crash after reports the driver stopped there on purpose.

Police said they are looking into this and are trying to find out if that was why the car was on the level crossing.

The names of the other victims have yet to be released.

The driver of the train was among those who died. A further 71 people were injured.

The train was travelling from London to Plymouth when the collision happened at around 6.15pm on Saturday.

Wreckage

Police have brought in lifting gear to remove around 300 tonnes of wreckage from the track, which will probably begin on Tuesday.

The level crossing was not manned.

It has emerged that an off-duty policeman saw the car on the track and attempted to raise the alarm.
