  Cancer warning for sunburnt kids
Updated 10 May 2004, 10.00
Children need to stay out of the sun
Your parents aren't doing enough to stop you getting sunburnt according to charity, Cancer Research UK.

More than a third of parents they spoke to admitted that their children had been sunburnt in the past, despite most of them knowing it could cause cancer.

The survey also found that 41% of parents like their kids to have a tan, because it makes them look healthy.

The charity says you should keep out of the sun when it is hottest and wear a hat, t-shirt, sunglasses and sun cream.

Fact File
Staying safe in the sun
Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm
Wear a hat, T-shirt, sunglasses and use sun cream of factor 15 or higher
Be extra careful when swimming or in a breeze, because you won't feel as hot
You can be sunburnt after just 10 minutes in the sun
The survey is part of a new campaign to make more people aware of the dangers of getting sunburnt, called Kids Cook Quick.

The charity are putting up 19,000 posters to try and remind parents how quickly children get burnt.

Some children can get burnt skin after just 10 minutes in the sun so need to be properly protected when it's hot.
