A fansite claimed to have been told that some of the book had already been printed, and that an announcement was not far off.
But CBBC Newsround has been in contact with JK's agents and they categorically denied all aspects of the rumour.
They added that she was busy, happily writing away and for up-to-date info fans should check her website.
J K Rowling herself indicated at the Edinburgh Book Festival in August that she was about half way through the book.
The title of the sixth book in the series was announced in June as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
