  Microwaved egg damages girl's eye
Updated 30 April 2004, 10.43
Microwaved eggs are dangerous
A nine-year-old girl was temporarily blinded in one eye after an egg she had heated up in a microwave exploded.

Eye experts now want big warnings on microwaves to make sure other people don't have similar accidents.

The girl heated the cooked egg for 40 seconds on full power, and as she was walking away it exploded and some of it hit her in the face and the eye.

Three months later her sight has come back, but at the time all she could see were hand movements.

Eggs cooked in microwaves have caused problems before, burning faces and eyes on other people too.

The experts added that even if the egg has been taken out of its shell it can still be dangerous if heated.

Microwave makers say you should be very careful when heating eggs, piercing them lots before starting.
