  We meet Billy Elliot hopefuls

Nearly 100 lads have queued up in rain-soaked London for the chance to play Billy Elliot in a West End musical.

CBBC Newsround Online chatted to some of the hopefuls as they went through their paces.

Age: 11
From: Rochester
When did you start performing? At age six
What's it been like today? Yesterday I was admant I wasn't coming. I've auditioned for the part before and didn't get through. But I slept on it and thought I might as well come. I was nervous, but I'm always nervous.



Name: Barney
Age: 12
From: London
When did you start performing? At age four
What's it been like today? I thought it would be a good experience. It's important to keep trying, even if you don't get through. I didn't like the singing too much because I had to do my solo twice.

When did you start performing? At age seven
What's it been like today? I liked the singing. I love singing - I can't go a day without singing. It was scary because it's the biggest audition I have ever been to.

When did you start performing? I started singing in the shower when I was four
What's it been like today? It was fun and it was nerve wracking. I like the ballet - it's my favourite type of dancing.

When did you start performing? It's my first audition!
What's it been like today? My drama teacher said I should come along. I was nervous, but I got to know all the kids and they were nice.The judges were watching us really carefully.

When did you start performing? I liked prancing around in the living room when I was small
What's it been like today? Excellent. The nerves and the tension grab you. I liked all of it - even the bits when I was nervous.

What's it been like today? I came to have a bit of fun and to see how far I could get. It's been really excellent meeting people who like to do the same things.

What's it been like today? The audition was all right. It was scary waiting to see if you'd got through. I came for the experience. I want to be in musicals when I'm older.

What's it been like today? The best bit was doing a dance to the Beyonce song. Everyone I've met has been nice and i've made quite a few friends.

What's it been like today? It was fun. The dancing was a bit hard. I was nervous at first, but I was fine once I got into it.
