Kids could be graded on fitness
Updated 15 April 2004, 12.46
School reports could include fitness in the future
Teachers could mark you on your fitness if ideas from a new report on making kids more healthy are used.

Every teacher would also have to learn how to teach PE so more children would spend time running about.

Politicians are very worried about how unhealthy children are getting and want them to do much more exercise and eat food that is better for them.

The report also recommends that every pupil must be made to do at least two hours of PE every week.

Fact File
Ideas to make kids fitter
All new teachers given PE training
Scottish ban on fast food ads on school vending machines should be in England and Wales too
Rules on food and drink ads aimed at children should be made tougher
A review of school food should include tuck shops as well as dinners
Two hours PE a week for every secondary school pupil
More walking and cycling routes to school
The report has been written by the Liberal Democrats political party, who say the government needs to work harder on the problem.

It's not just the health of children now that is a big problem.

The more unhealthy people are the more medical help they will need in the future, and all that treatment could cost millions to pay for.
