Updated 07 April 2004, 21.32
David Beckham has won a top book award
David Beckham's autobiography has won a special prize at the British Book Awards, created especially for him.

He won The Fastest Selling Biography Of All Time prize after his book My Side sold more than a million copies.

Becks said: "When I decided to write my autobiography I never expected to be breaking records. I just wanted to give my side of the story."

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time won two awards, including Children's Book of the Year.

Both Becks' book and The Curious Incident were nominated for the big prize, The British Book of the Year but didn't win.

That was won by a book called Eats, Shoots and Leaves which is all about punctuation tips for adults.

England World Cup winning rugby captain Martin Johnson was another sporting award winner, snapping up the sports book of the year for his autobiography.
