UK Muslims asked to fight terror
Updated 31 March 2004, 14.15
Mosque
British Muslims are being asked to help prevent terror attacks in the UK.

The Muslim Council of Britain has sent letters to every mosque in the country asking worshippers to be vigilant after recent threats.

Many Muslim leaders are worried that terror groups are using politics to mislead young people.

The letters and special booklets remind them that Islam is against violence, and ask them to stop criminals getting into their communities.

On Friday sermons will be delivered saying terrorism has no place in Islam.

Police support the move, which comes after the bomb attacks in Madrid which killed 191 people on 11 March.

Fifteen people are still being held over the attacks.
