  Primary school bullying 'drops'
Updated 19 March 2004, 09.04
The scheme has been proven to help cut bullying
The number of children who say they're being bullied in primary school has fallen, according to a report.

The Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU) say 25% of 10 to 11-year-old kids they spoke to in 2003 had problems with bullies in the previous month.

In 1997 30% of boys and 28% of girls said they were being bullied. The SHEU included name calling as well as actual violence in what it called bullying.

It also found nearly half of kids aged 12-13 were happier with themselves.

But the SHEU also found the number of children who said they'd been scared to go to school because of bullying was up.

The amount of boys affected in the past year rose from 24% to 25%, but it was worse for girls.

40% had been affected at some time in 2003, compared to 35% in 1997.

The SHEU say this could be because kids are getting better at reporting their problems.
