  New rules for home school?
Updated 02 August 2004, 17.04

For the 170,000 of you being home-schooled rules about the work you do could be about to change.

Home-schooling means learning at home and not going to school. You don't have to have formal lessons or sit exams.

As more kids than ever before are being home-schooled teachers say there need to be better checks on what kids are learning at home.

The government is considering what sort of monitoring it needs to introduce at the moment.

Vasudev studies at home, at libraries and on trips to museums

Vasudev is 10 years old.

He has been educated at home for the last three years and says he loves it.

'More confident'

He says: "I think its great. I feel really comfortable at home - I'm more confident since being homeschooled - and there are fewer distractions!"

He also backs the teachers' suggestions for new rules.

He says: "I think it's good they're going to check on what people are doing - make sure we keep our level up."
