Auction to sell thousands of toys
Updated 27 January 2004, 10.12

A huge auction of old toys starts on Tuesday, with more than 8,000 up for sale in the three-day event.

Among the things being sold are six Star Wars first issue figures, and they're expected to make £200-£250.

Old toys can be worth lots of money if they're in really good condition and have boxes, and people keep them for years hoping they'll be worth money.

One toy expected to go for lots of money is an unused Silverstone race track that could sell for £800-£1,000.

The boss of the auction company, Vectis, said he thinks the auction is the largest of its kind to be held in the North-East.

He added: "During 2003 mint and boxed Dinky toys rose by some 18% alone and there is no sign of the market slowing down."
