  Famous 70s Chopper bike returning
Updated 15 January 2004, 17.47
The old Raleigh Chopper - Pic by Graham Coventry 2004
One of the most famous bikes ever made in the UK is making a comeback, 23 years after it was last in shops.

It's called the Raleigh Chopper, and was the bike every kid in the 1970s wanted - just ask your mum and dad!

Choppers had a giant back wheel, a tiny front wheel, massive handlebars and a seat that looked like it had been taken from a motorbike.

The first 2,004 bikes will be limited edition with a personalised plaque featuring the production line number.

The bikes were the coolest thing around in the 70s

One of the reasons they were cool was because adults didn't think they were suitable for kids, perhaps because they were designed to look like motorbikes.

They're being brought back because of the current retro trend for things that used to be cool years and years ago.

Raleigh, who make the Chopper say "we are confident that it's going to prove as popular today as it did back in the 70s."
