Children lost in US snow storms
Updated 08 December 2003, 21.42
Snow storms have swept across part of the US
Ten schoolchildren on a hiking trip are missing after heavy snow storms swept across parts of America.

The youngsters, who were on a walking trail with two adults in Maine, failed to come back from the trip on Sunday.

All of the children went to Oxford Hills Comprehensive School in Maine, but it's not known how old they are.

A search team has been launched to look for them. It's thought the party had winter clothes and tents, but no snow shoes, so they could be stranded.

Winter weather

The last person to see the party was the parent of one of the children, who saw them on Saturday.

Snow was up to 76 centimetres deep in parts of Maine, as snow storms and winter weather rocked parts of the north-east of the United States.
