  Potter audiobooks shatter record
Updated 31 October 2003, 11.30
OOTP is spread over 24 CDs
The Harry Potter books have broken yet another record.

CD and cassette recordings of the entire series of novels have sold a million copies - more than any other audiobook in the UK.

If the five books were read back to back, it would take 80 hours. The latest book, Order Of The Phoenix, is spread across 22 cassettes and 24 CDs.

The firm which made the recordings said that, when the first audiobook came out, it hoped to sell 10,000 copies, so making a million was unbelievable.

The audiobooks are narrated by actor and comedian Stephen Fry. They have made him famous as "the voice of Harry Potter".

A spokesman for BBC Audiobooks, which produces the recordings, said: "Harry Potter has broken all the rules in the audio category."

He described reaching the one million mark as "a truly remarkable and unique achievement".
