Kids asked if they want the vote younger
Updated 07 October 2003, 15.37

Experts who help the government run elections are asking young people what age they want to vote at.

The Electoral Commission, who tell politicians how to make elections work better, are preparing a report on voting ages.

Ballot box

It will say if they think the minimum age for voting should be younger than 18.

Before they write the report the experts really want to hear what you lot think about this, so they are looking for your comments.

Voting age is being looked at because not everyone thinks it's right that you have to wait until 18 to help pick the next prime minister.

Researchers who looked at young people and politics were worried that under-18s got ignored by politicians, because they had no say in elections.

They thought that might be why young people were not into politics. The new report could help the government decide what to do next.
