Kids 'feel unsafe' in local parks
Updated 28 July 2003, 10.08
Kids feel unsafe in local parks, according to a survey
Loads of kids think it's too dangerous to hang out and have fun at their local parks, a survey has found.

They say they're put off because parks are often taken over by gangs of older kids.

And many of the parks are so dirty they wouldn't want to go there anyway.

Kids aged five to 13 were asked about their top concerns by the organisation which inspects schools, Ofsted.

Most of them said they were really worried about not having decent places to play in and hang out with their mates.

Better life

The survey was carried out as part of a report on a government scheme to help kids from poorer parts of England.

The scheme aims to make schools, children's charities, the police and other groups work together to help stamp out poverty and improve kids' lives.
