  David Blaine: watching the box
Updated 10 September 2003, 08.09
David Blaine takes a swig of water during his stunt
By Claudine Spera
CBBC Newsround at Tower Bridge

David Blaine is four days into his latest bizarre stunt.

He's holed up in a plastic box dangling over the side of the Thames and plans to stay there for 44 days or just over six weeks, with no food and just water to drink.

But what does he get up to in the box?

The answer it seems, is not a lot.

Snack in a box?

Where's Blaine gone?
Where's Blaine gone?
Occasionally Blaine would look down at the crowd and wave in their direction.

But most of the time he just lay down on his back, shifting from time to time.

I tried to speak to the security guards, to get a bit of insider info about the stunt.

Was it for real? Did he stay up there all night? Did he pop out to go to the loo? Was he sneaking snacks under that blanket?

Unfortunately the beefy security men seemed quite shy.

They wouldn't even confirm how many people were watching out for David night and day during the six-week stunt. "Too sensitive," they said.

Our brief conversation was cut short when two girls rattled the lock on the fence surrounding the box hanging area.

Security went onto red alert as the two guards charged towards the fence, but they needn't have bothered since the girls just ran away giggling.

Movement spotted

There were about 400 people hanging around staring up at the wacky magician.

Some people were filming him, some were shouting up encouragement and others waving.

Then suddenly there was movement - Blaine stood up, and the crowd stirred.

He stretched, drank some water, put his jumper on, then knelt down under his blanket.

Toilet break?

David Blaine - is he praying?
Is Blaine praying?
It wasn't clear what he was doing but there were whispers he might have been going to the toilet. I think he looked like he was praying.

The magician then adjusted his air vent and lay down.

And that was it, for another hour. Just 40 days to go...
