  Postcards replaced by texts
Updated 24 July 2003, 13.13
People are not sending many postcards
People on holidays are ditching postcards in favour of texts and e-cards.

Instead of scribbling out a hand-written message, people are typing out a text to their family and mates instead.

More than half of people asked said they didn't plan to send as many postcards in the future.

Shame

Postcards
Postcard collecting is called deltiology
Postcards are the third biggest collectible - after stamps and coins
The first souvenir postcard was printed in the 1890s
Before postcards, people sent envelopes with elaborate pictures on them

And a quarter moaned they take too long to deliver, whereas a text or e-card is instant.

Others reckoned they never got time to write postcards or that they'd rather phone home.

But holidays experts say it'd be a huge shame if postcards died out for good.

They reckon they're imaginative and personal, and more fun to receive than a plain old text.
