Boys need to realise 'school is cool'
Updated 11 July 2003, 08.43
Boys are being urged to stop messing about with their mates
Boys are being urged to stop messing about with their mates and to realise that school is cool.

A new report says that showing off at school is stopping boys doing well in their lessons.

Boys fall behind

Girls are doing better in exams

Girls are doing loads better than lads in exams and school inspectors have been looking at the reasons why boys fall behind.

They reckon that many boys think it is uncool to be good at school work.

They want the boys to change their attitude because it's ruining their chances of having a good career.

Enthusiastic

The report also found that boys work harder for teachers who are really enthusiastic about their subjects, and who don't mind having a giggle in class.

Boys also like teachers to speak to them one-to-one, rather than talking to them in front of the class, the report said.
