Potter works magic in top 100 books poll
Updated 17 May 2003, 15.35
The Potter books have done well in the survey
Harry Potter has worked his magic once again.

All four of JK Rowling's novels have made it into a poll to find Britain's top 100 books.

It's so impressive as they're up against all-time classics which were written years ago, like Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Kid's books did well

More than 140,000 people voted in the BBC survey, called The Big Read.

Kid's books have done really well generally.

Other fave titles in the top 100 are Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, Lord of the Rings, Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer and lots of books by Roald Dahl.

But we won't know just how well the boy wizard's done until the results are revealed in the autumn.

A programme looking at some of the best books is on BBC2 at 9.05pm on Saturday night.
