Updated 26 June 2003, 19.41
JK Rowling meets her fans at the Royal Albert Hall
By Shelley Michalska
CBBC Newsround Online, London

Thousand of kids had a rare treat on Thursday as JK Rowling read them a few pages from the Order of the Phoenix.

It's not too hot for hats
The 4,000 lucky ones queued up in the blazing sunshine outside London's famous Royal Albert Hall in black witches and wizard hats festooned with silver stars.

The beautiful circular building was hung with red, blue and yellow Potter banners.

When JK arrive there was uproar, children and adults alike screaming for their heroine to sign autographs, which she dutifully did.

Inside, the hall was specially decorated for the event, and the staff were dressed in Hogwarts robes.

As well as reading a few pages, JK answered questions from all over the world:

JK Rowling signs autographs
One was: "If you had one magical power what would it be?"

"I would love to have the power of invisibility," she replied.

And she hinted our hero Harry might not survive the end of the last book which drew gasps from the audience.

Altogether now!

The children came out full of stories about the flying Ford Anglia which came down from the ceiling, the shining silver moon inside which a Potter film could be seen, and singing the Hogwarts song all together!

And there were flames and smoke special effects as an image of the Phoenix appeared in the great hall!

They all seemed to agree it had been worth the trip.

Don't forget our very special OOTP programme on Friday at 5.35pm with Lizo and a special mystery guest and YOU can join in!
