Eight-year-old plans to climb three peaks
Updated 09 May 2003, 17.16
Beccie on one of her adventures
An eight-year-old adventurer is bidding to become the youngest person to climb Britain's three highest peaks in one day.

Beccie Shedden from Barnsley is hoping to reach the summits of Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland within 24 hours.

She has already climbed all three peaks on separate trips, so she knows what to expect.

Beccie's climbing partner is her dad, Rob.

He started taking her hill-walking when she was just six months old, tucking her into a special backpack.

"I call her a mountain goat," he joked. "She goes scrambling up places and seems to get more powerful the higher up we get."

The three peaks will be quite a challenge, but Beccie's got her sights set on much bigger things.

She wants to be a mountaineer when she grows up and fancies taking on the world's highest peak, Everest.
