  Spy story wins tops kid's book award

Skeleton Key by Anthony Horowitz
Children have voted adventure book Skeleton Key their fave new novel.

The spy book by Anthony Horowitz has won the prestigious Red House Children's Book Award 2003.

It's the third novel in the popular series all about 14-year-old spy Alex Rider, who's been described as "James Bond in Nike trainers."

Kid's votes

The Children's Book Award is so special because it's voted for entirely by children.

More than 20,000 kids from all over the UK took part and voted for their fave book.

The three top winners were:

  • Skeleton Key by Anthony Horowitz
  • Pants by Giles Andreae and Nick Sharratt
  • Blitzed by Robert Swindells

But Skeleton Key was named the overall winner at a posh ceremony in London.

Harry Potter

Books which win the Children's Book Award usually go on to be huge bestsellers.

Past winners include Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Eat Your Peas.
