Top MP admits 'big ears' nickname
Updated 10 June 2003, 08.27
Charles Clarke was the victim of a schoolboy joke
The top schools boss in the country has admitted he was called "big ears" in the playground.

Charles Clarke, the government's education secretary, told Newsround's MiP - Man in Parliament - he had the rather cruel nickname at school.

This comes just weeks after Mr Clarke was the victim of a schoolboy's prank about ears.

A pupil did a "bunny ears" sign behind the MP's head when he visited Mr Clarke's office.

A photo of the stunt was printed in loads of newspapers the next day.

There was a bit of a row about it at the time as the school's head teacher claimed the boy had been egged on by a cheeky photographer after a good snap.

In this week's MiP files, the education boss also revealed he supports Norwich City and that he was interested in politics even as a young child.
