Comic Relief raises 35 million and tops record
Updated 15 March 2003, 09.56
Will Mellor won Celebrity Fame Academy
Red Nose Day has raised more than 35 million for Comic Relief.

That's 50% more than the amount raised at the same stage in 2001.

Organisers hope the eventual total will top 55 million - that's how much was raised in all last time.

Will Mellor won Celebrity Fame Academy, one of the highlights of the event.

The Casualty actor won loads of female fans during the week-long series with his ballads.

Comedian Ruby Wax came a close second
Unforgettable!
He said: "I feel fantastic," then film star Hugh Grant gave him a special trophy!

Runner-up Ruby Wax was given a CD of her unique singing - no one's going to forget her version of Sk8er Boi in a hurry!

The phone voting raised a fantastic 600,000.

Road rage

Gareth Gates showed he's got a problem with road rage and failed his Celebrity Driving Test along with EastEnders' Lucy Speed and Big Brother's Jade.

Nice voice, shame about the driving!
Viewers were also treated to a spoof Harry Potter sketch, by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, who set up a scene called Harry Potter and the Chamber Pot of Azerbaijan.

The sketch featured Basil Brush as Dobby and posh British actor Jeremy Irons, who played Snape.

All the cash raised goes to people who need it most in the UK and Africa.
