Boy's letter tempts Queen to his town
Updated 06 March 2003, 14.51
The Queen says hello to her fans
The Queen has paid a special royal visit to east London after a 14-year-old boy wrote a sad letter to her.

George was unhappy she couldn't join in the fun of his town's Golden Jubilee Celebrations last year.

She toured all over the UK for the parties, but didn't make it to his neck of the woods.

In fact, she's never been to Romford in the London Borough of Havering before, even though she's been invited lots of times.

The Mayor and other locals had written before to ask her to visit - but all failed to tempt her.

So when George's reply to his letter came back saying "yes", he was right royally chuffed!

And he even gets to meet her! She'll be popping into his school to be entertained by their music, art, drama and dance.

Rosie Lee

The Queen will also have a wander around Romford's market, which is known for the stallholders' cockney rhyming slang.

While she's there, the Baked Bean might even pick up some chicken and rice John Cleese with her bangers and mash and then have a tiddlywink of Rosie Lee!

Translated: While she's there, the Queen might even pick up some nice cheese with her cash and then have a drink of tea!
