Burgers still rule your 'bad' school dinners
Updated 06 March 2003, 07.53
Lots of school dinners are still loaded with fat
Would you rather munch on a burger and chips instead of the healthy options in the school canteen?

Well you're not alone.

School dinners are still really unhealthy, with kids pigging out on pizza, crisps and fizzy drinks, despite a huge campaign to make them healthier.

Most children eat far too much fat and sugar in their school dinner or packed lunch, and fruit, vegetables and water hardly get a look in, a report says.

Hardly any children eat enough fruit and veg
Other faves are chicken nuggets, meat pasties, chocolate bars and cake.

Watchdog magazine Which? got 250 children to keep a food diary, and they reckon the results are bad. Even though we're all supposed to eat five portions of fruit and veg a day, most pupils only managed two at the most.

There are now calls for more healthy foods to be offered at school and for them to be cheaper than the fattening alternatives.
