Parents are scared of their violent kids
Updated 05 March 2003, 19.09
Bullied parents
More and more parents are getting bullied by their own kids, says a new report.

Over a quarter of phone calls to Parentline Plus - like ChildLine but for adults - were from mums and dads scared of their children's violent behaviour last year.

Shouting, spitting, punching, kicking and threatening family members with weapons, were just some of the things worried parents called about, says the report.

Much of the bad behaviour can be blamed on problems, like drugs, poverty, teenage pregnancy, problems at school, and crime.

But almost half of mums and dads said their separations or divorces were to blame for making children so angry, they'd hit out.

The report also shows it's mums who are bullied most. Almost 80% of the calls were about violence they had suffered.

And there was not a lot of difference between who was more of a bully - boys or girls.

Boys and girls aged 13 to 15 were the most violent.

But boys aged nine to 12 and girls aged 16 to 19 were also guilty of being parent bullies.

If you think your mum or dad needs to find help, Parentline Plus' phone number is 0808 800 2222.

You can tell them it's free, open 24 hours and is confidential.
