Ms Dynamite calls for gun crime to end
Updated 20 January 2003, 07.30
Members of the girls' family read tributes
Ms Dynamite called for an end to gun crime at a concert to remember two teenagers who were shot dead in Birmingham.

The R&B star read a poem to around 8,000 people saying it was time for black people to "start loving instead of killing each other".

Friends and family of Charlene Ellis, 18, and her 17-year-old cousin Latisha Shakespeare were among those at the tribute concert at Aston Villa Football Club on Sunday.

There was also a message from Prime Minister Tony Blair, who said in a letter that he would not rest until the gun criminals were brought to justice.

Singer Beverley Knight was also there, and she said the government was being "irresponsible and misguided" in the way they linked music to gun crime.

Music stars under attack

Earlier in January the home secretary David Blunkett and other politicians attacked musicians who made music that made guns and violence look cool.

Charlene's mum also read out a poem, and spoke of forgiveness and love in her tribute for the two girls.
