More children are hyperactive than ever
Updated 22 December 2002, 14.21
Children in the playground
More of you than ever before are hyperactive or have Attention Deficit Disorder, also known as ADD.

It's now thought that about 345,000 children are affected - that's about one in 20 of all six to 16-year-olds.

The new government figures were published in a newspaper on Sunday.

What happens if you're hyperactive?

The hyperactivity drug Ritalin
Hyperactivity drug
Hyperactive children often have big problems with their behaviour and are disruptive in class.

No one quite knows why it's caused, but modern additives in food is one reason often given.

Doctors are giving out a drug called Ritalin more and more often, to calm these problems down and help kids concentrate better at school.

Some parents have found it really works.

But others say it's no good, and makes children too laid-back.
