Fishermen say if they can't catch as many fish, they will lose their jobs. And so will others who rely on the fishing business.
The EU's Agriculture and Fisheries Council meets on Monday to decide how many fish they will be allowed to catch next year.
Is it unfair to stop the fishermen doing their job or should we be more worried about conserving cod?

"Irish Sea fishermen have been on a cod recovery plan for the past four years. The fishermen feel that the scientists and government should give this plan time to work because they feel that it is successful. How come foreign vessels can fish in waters that the British fleet cannot fish in? Surely they are causing the same amount of damage."
Bryan, 16, Northern Ireland
"I think that the fishermen should cut down on cod fishing. I like it but one day they could become extinct like the dinosaurs!"
Nicola, 14, Derbyshire
"I think that it is unfair for the fishermen because that may be their only qualification so they may not be able to get another job. But I also understand why it has been enforced because the fishermen may wipe out cod."
Lucy, 12, Stevenage
"My father has fished since he was 16-years-old and there are many more people like him who could loose everything if the government doesn't stop and think about the effects the cuts are having on people. Surely if the same thing happened to the farmers people would have a lot more to say."
Amy, 16, Whitley Bay
"Fishermen are saying if they can't catch as many fish, their jobs will be threated. But surely if they run out of fish they'll lose their jobs anyway because there will be none left to catch."
Ben, 14, Bedford
"I live in Cornwall and I know how important fishing is to people here and if they were made to stop fishing for cod then all the people round here would loose a lot of money."
Dani, 14, Liskeard
"My dad is a fisherman and if there are fishing cuts he will lose his job. But it's not just about his job, he also does it for the fun and pleasure. I go fishing as well and so do all my family it will be a great loss!"
Maddie, 11, Amble
"They should do whatever is good for the environment. Fisherman ought to cut down on the number of fish they catch."
Candice, 16, London
"I think that the saying "there is plently more fish in the sea" will not be able to be said if they don't cut down on bring back the fish."
Sarah, 11, Stourbridge
"They should breed more fish in a new lake or a tank."
Jonathan, 13
"If the fisherman don't cut back now, eventually they'll have no fish left to catch. They have to act responsibly and think about the future. If the industry can't support all the fishermen, then some of them need to find new jobs."
Giles, 14, Doncaster
