Calling ChildLine quickly is the key
Updated 25 October 2002, 20.29
ChildLine
Kids have realised that calling ChildLine as quickly as possible is the key to getting the best help with problems.

The charity said children were seven times more likely to ring them within a month of suffering abuse than when ChildLine was set up.

That was 16 years ago when asking for help if you were being abused wasn't something that kids did.

Fact File
ChildLine
A free, confidential, 24-hour helpline for children in trouble or danger
Its number is 0800 1111
Now you're much more aware of your rights and know that you can ask for help if you need to.

The charity also reckon that more of you are phoning sooner because mobile phones are so popular, making it easier to find a private place to ring.

Back in 1986 only 7% of callers did so within a month after the abuse, now 49% are on the phone to ChildLine within four weeks.
