At home they don't have to sit exams like SATs, GCSEs or A-Levels, although they can choose to take these at an exam centre if they want to.
And kids taught at home can go on to college at 16 if they've got the grades, just like everyone else.
You can't watch TV all day
If the child has ever been to school they will be registered with the local authority.
This means the council will need to feel that a child is getting suitable education at home, and will probably ask to visit the family to talk to the parent and child.
But if they're not registered they're left to get on with their education with the help of their parents of guardians.
