Kids want more improvements to Carnival
Updated 25 August 2002, 17.13

Children like the changes to London's Notting Hill Carnival - but say that even more could be done it make it better.

Hundreds of thousands of people packed the streets for Sunday's Children's Day, at the start of one of the biggest free street parties in Europe.

Many of those were families, attracted partly by changes made for 2002 to get more young people back.

These include making the route of the procession shorter, and making sure that only bands for children and young people can take part.

Most of the children we spoke to were having a great time, and felt really at home.

Casey, nine, who'd been three times before, told CBBC Newsround Online that the stalls were better and that there was more to do. She was planning to stay till 7pm.

Eight-year-old friends Trae and Joshua, who'd come from High Wycombe, were having a wicked time and said they'd definitely come again "if our mums let us!"

But Kieron, nine, from Nottingham, thought that more could be done to make it a better Children's Day.

He thought the music was too adult and there wasn't enough kids' stuff on sale.

And Farah, nine, and 10-year-old Olivia were having problems finding the new things aimed at children.

We also came across two kids' bands who didn't know where the procession route was - and had got completely lost.

But with the sun shining and the music pumping, well, most people seemed glad they were there!
