Natalie Gibson was stopped by the police after she and her friend Darren Harrison, 12, were spotted running down the street with a plastic toy gun.

Police couldn't decide whether it was a toy or the real thing, so they took the two friends to the police station and into a cell.

"It was frightening because there was this man next door to us and he was shouting and swearing and banging on his cell door," Natalie told CBBC Newsround Online.

It's the rules

Now Natalie's finger prints and DNA will be kept on file.

"They'll be on there for the rest of my life," said Natalie.

And she's asking her MP Dennis Murphy to look into how police deal with incidents like this which involve children.

But the police say it doesn't matter whether you're an adult or a child if you get caught with something which even looks like a dangerous weapon, it will be taken off you and your details put on file - those are just the rules.
