World's biggest kites fly over Blackpool
Updated 04 August 2002, 12.43
The Megabite kite towers over Blackpool Beach
The world's biggest and most spectacular kites have been flying over a north west beach.

The Blackpool International Monster Kite Show has featured the MegaBite monster kite.

Click here for amazing pics of the kites!

It measures a massive 250 foot long, almost half the height of Blackpool Tower.

Flying teddies

It had to be anchored to the beach so a 17.5 ton excavator was brought in for the job.

It was designed and built in New Zealand by an expert kite maker Peter Lynn and had to be specially shipped in for the event.

Other kite stars of the show included giant flying teddies, scuba duvers and an octopus.
